Careers

KoKo NYC is the arts education program of Open Source Gallery. KoKo NYC serves thousands of children every year through programs in local schools, the Brooklyn Public Library and the CAMBA Flagstone Family Center (a family homeless shelter in Brownsville, Brooklyn)

We are year round seeking teaching artists for the KoKo NYC programs.

KoKo NYC class options are ever expanding, but the core of every class and workshop remains the same: to empower kids to see potential all around them, to see their own ideas to fruition, to feel a sense of ownership in their work and to make connections between art and science. The use of repurposed materials as the foundation of KoKo NYC’s building supplies engenders environmental awareness as well as a spirit of innovation. Students learn to make art from their environment, to see “trash” as an opportunity to create something new. Many classes also utilize open source technology and/or simple components such as littleBits to teach kids about circuitry, programming and other scientific concepts through the process of creation.
