What is Latte Capitalizm?
Latte Capitalizm: Letters as a Source of Resistance is an exhibition by Monika Drożyńska, with hand-embroidered words and symbols on fabric, as well as banners and stickers. The letters and words that Drożyńska uses tell stories about history, power, places, and the relationships between different kinds of people.

Who is Monika Drożyńska?
Monika Drożyńska is a visual artist and activist from Poland. She makes artwork using letters and words by hand stitching on fabric to show people different ways of thinking about social issues and language.

Why is this art made with words?
The way that words and letters have been used by different people and in different languages can tell us a lot about the way people relate to each other. Think about how much of your relationship with your family and friends depends on talking with them, or how much of what you learn in school you learn through words. Because we use words for so many things, they can be a very powerful tool, and the way they change over time can tell us a lot about history and the present.

Why embroidery?
Embroidering by hand is an old school, domestic craft that takes a lot of time, care, and control. This action can be very calming, but it can also remind you of some ways that people hurt each other. Embroidery is something that some people think only women do, but Drożyńska wants everybody to think about the possibilities within the simple act of stitching into fabric.
